What are Fly Ash Bricks Made using fly ash (a by-product of coal‑fired power plants) + sand/stone dust + cement, water, and sometimes other additives (like lime, gypsum). They are formed under pressure and cured (often by steam or wet curing) rather than being fired in kilns like traditional red clay bricks. Advantages Fly ash bricks offer many benefits over traditional red clay bricks : Environmentally friendlier Uses waste fly ash, reducing stockpiles & pollution. Less energy required (no firing in brick kilns) so fewer emissions. Better uniformity & finish : Smooth surface, regular size, consistent colour. Less variation. Fewer defects, cracks, etc. Higher strength & durability : Good compressive strength, less breakage during handling & transport. Lower water absorption, better resistance to moisture, less efflorescence. Cost & labour savings : Less mortar and plaster needed (due to regularity & better bonding) reduces material & labour costs. Lighter weight → easier handling, possibly lower transport cost. Thermal benefits : Because they absorb less heat, interiors stay cooler (good for Indian summer). Also less heat conduction through walls. Long term durability : Good resistance to weather, fire, vermin etc.
